On November 10th, 2025, the Giants officially said goodbye to Brian Daboll, after nearly four seasons acting as the Head Coach of the New York Football Franchise. Daboll accumulated a record of 20-40-1, making a mark in Giants history as the worst ever coaching record in franchise history. However for Daboll, this was a long time coming.
Daboll began his professional coaching journey at the New England Patriots as the Defensive Assistant and Wide Receiver Coach. Daboll later found himself at the New York Jets, Cleveland Browns, Miami Dolphins, Kansas City Chiefs, and the Buffalo Bills. Making a name for himself at these teams Daboll won five superbowls, one college national championship, developed Josh Allen, and received the Associated Press NFL Assistant Coach of the Year award.
A few days after the Bills season ended in 2022, the New York Giants hired their new head coach – Brian Daboll, following the firing of Joe Judge (2020-2021).
“The Daboll Dynasty”, a term coined by the Buffalo Bills, spread to New York after making the playoffs in 2022 for the first time in six years. However, this dynasty did not last long. Since 2022 the Giants have not made the playoffs or been considered for the Wild Card Round, having a total of 9 wins and 35 losses.
Throughout the four years of Daboll as the head coach, the Giants did have some successes. Making the playoffs for the first time in six years, drafting Jaxson Dart, Malik Nabers, Cam Skattebo, Abdul Carter and Kayvon Thibodeaux, and beating the reigning Super Bowl champions; the Philadelphia Eagles. However, not even the discovery of Quarterback Jaxson Dart was enough to save Daboll.
“Daboll was put into a difficult position between navigating injuries to key skill position players, and the Giants management didn’t do him any favors. We saw what [he] could do with a healthy roster in 2022 and what Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley are doing on new teams, but the front office failed to build a competent roster around what was the most promising Giants team since 2016,” Mr. Vogt, one of the Glen Rock High School’s Varsity Sport Coaches expressed.
The first decision made post Daboll firing, was the promotion of Offensive Coordinator Mike Kafka, to interim head coach. Co-owners John Mara and Joe Tisch were nothing but disappointed after short seasons and the frustration of fans. The Giants faculty grew tired of nonstop losses without any accountability or changes. The final straw came on November 9th, when the team blew a 10-point lead to the Chicago Bears in the final four minutes, and a bad coaching decision led to Dart’s concussion.
“We spoke this morning about the direction of our franchise on the field, and we have decided that, at this time, it is in our best interest to make a change at the head coaching position,” president John Mara and chairman Steve Tisch said in a joint statement on Monday, November 10th.
With the hopes for a healthy 2026 team, the outcome is up to the coach. Returning in the 2026 season will be star wide receiver Malik Nabers and running back Cam Skattebo, with the addition of Jaxson Dart, Brian Burns, Theo Johnson, and Dexter Lawrence. All eyes are on John Mara, the owner of the Giants, and Joe Schoen; the General Manager, as they are on the hunt for a new coach.
