Puerto Rican singer Bad Bunny has officially made history twice this month. His first comes in the form of a Grammy for his album, which was released in 2025, “Debi Tirar Mas Fotos (DTMF),” won Album of the Year. The second, a performance on Feb 8th in the Super Bowl Halftime Show.
DTMF had the largest vinyl sale in a week ever for a mainly Spanish-speaking album, selling 85,000+ copies in the first week the album was released, and that month he hit 100 million album sales. It also charted on the Billboard Top 200, at the coveted number one spot, and remained in that spot for three consecutive weeks. Apart from record-breaking sales, the album had standout songs like “Debi Tirar Mas Fotos”, and went viral on TikTok and other streaming platforms. It was nominated for “Record of the Year” and “Song of the Year.” His AOTY win made his album the first predominantly Spanish-speaking record to win the award. He won two other awards for “Best Musica Urbana Album” (Dtmf) and “Best Global Music Performance” for his song “EoO.”
On February 8, 2026, Bad Bunny performed at the Super Bowl Halftime Show and became the first artist to headline the show primarily in Spanish. Other Spanish speaking artists have performed the halftime show in the past, like J Balvin, Enrique Iglesias, and Shakira. Bad Bunny performed in the halftime show in 2020 alongside Shakira, J Balvin, and Jennifer Lopez, but this was his first time headlining the performance. His show not only showcased the reach of Latin music across America and the rest of the globe, it introduced the first Puerto Rican Sign Language Interpreter (LSPR) as well. He began the set with his most famous song ever, the song that launched him to stardom, “Titi Me Pregunto,” which broke its own respective records, with the song’s music video also became Bad Bunny’s 19th music video to reach 1 billion streams on Youtube, a feat recently achieved this past January. “I thought [the performance] was very powerful and that the historical symbolism was really impressive,” says Glen Rock High School senior Charlotte Hild.
Apart from excelling in the music industry, Bad Bunny also helped Puerto Rico economically by hosting a 31- show series earlier in 2025. The shows generated tourism, raised around $733 million, and brought around 600,000 attendees in total. He surpassed artists Wisin and Yandel – who performed 14 – as hosting more shows in Puerto Rico in a row and his final performance made history as being the most watched single-artist event on Amazon platforms.
Despite backlash from those who felt the Halftime Show should have been performed in English, Bad Bunny has continued to shine. He has surpassed all of these records, and is very likely to surpass more in the future. Even with that continued doubt from primarily non-Spanish speakers, he pushes the limit of what is possible, and will make the music industry more accepting towards Latino artists for years to come.
