Should there be a “Silence Between Songs” : Reviewing Madison Beer’s Album

Madison Beer is a singer and songwriter born in Long Island, New York. She was discovered for her vocal talent by Justin Bieber in 2012 at only 13 years old. Beer had her debut in 2018 when her first debut EP, “As She Pleases”, released in 2018, utilized her voice in pop music. Later, Beer released her second debut album in 2021 titled, “Life Support“, which was co-produced and co-written by her. In 2023 Beer released her third album titled, “Silence Between Songs”, a long-term project overflowing with emotions because of the selection of subjects to sing about, like her brother and personal relationships. Beer’s music is unique because it’s as if the inspiration of The Beatles came together with Lana Del Rey combined with her angelic voice. What I’ve noticed about Beer’s type of music is that there’s always a pause or silence between tracks which helps you refresh your head and immediately shift into the next track which could be more upbeat. The main focus of the album was to demonstrate as much calmness between tracks as there could possibly be. Over the years I’ve noticed how different genre artists don’t put enough time into their track list and when the album comes out it just doesn’t make any sense at all because there’s no effort put into it. However, Beer’s newly released album “Silence Between Songs” is extremely precise and well thought out with each song being personal and meaningful to the artist. It’s as if you’re being let in on a “secret” and there is a more complex definition behind what your ears are digesting. I’ve heard fans and critics on various social media such as Instagram and Twitter discuss the lack of newer tracks on the new album; however, this album portrays as more of a test run of a bigger idea for future projects. So, should there be a silence between songs? This has me wondering if this energy should be incorporated into other artists’ albums because people have different preferences in how and where they listen to their music. Possibly other artists can understand from the listeners’ perspective of how overwhelming music can get when you go from happy to sad in a split of a second without a pause.
