Essential Autumn town day trips

Fall is arguably the most picturesque and cherished season of the year, due to its admirable, refreshing weather and its panoramic views. Because of this, visiting small towns for gorgeous views and to immerse yourself in the warm nature of autumn is considered one of the perfect ways to make use of this short yet wonderful time. The elements of a small town that many seek include quaint and charming shops, walkable navigation, lively seasonal events, an involved and welcoming community, and generally the classing, warm nature of a small town in autumn’s peak.

Washington, CT

Nestled in a range of hills in Connecticut, this quintessential area withholds a village that perfectly captures the essence of autumn in a small town. Its popular attractions include the Hickory Stick Bookshop and Marty’s Cafe, adjacent to each other and typically the first thing people notice about the village. Many say that it shows great resemblance to the set of the TV show “Gilmore Girls,”which is actually because the show was based off of it. Therefore, it attracts many people in the autumn and winter, yet stays particularly and uniquely obscure.

Sleepy Hollow, NY

Considered a great historical site by many, Sleepy Hollow NJ is an intricate and beautiful small town, which is illuminated by red leaves in the fall. Complete with many halloween activities in this season such as haunted houses, hayrides, and Jack-O-Lantern blazes, this village holds a fascinating history in landmarks such as the Philipsburg Manor and the Old Dutch Reformed Church. Besides the gorgeous views, exciting activities, and fascinating landmarks, the small businesses in Sleepy Hollow are perfect to visit for a day trip. The Sleepy Hollow Bookstore and their captivating vintage wares store are only some of the vast array of small businesses in this pleasant town.

Frenchtown, NJ

Only about two hours away, this local hidden gem of a town makes the perfect day trip. With colorful buildings, and its unique, convenient walkable navigation, Frenchtown is such an exciting place to make a visit to, and is completely worth it. Many describe it as a well kept secret, due to its lack of visibility on an autumn day trip list. Nonetheless, the picturesque village and astonishing beauty of the nature around it is too unique to be missed. Old fashioned bookstores are scattered about the town along with small cafes and restaurants, as well as its very own record store that has a large and convenient array of selection.

Stockbridge, MA

Well known for its fascinating museums and wonderful scenery, Stockbridge Massachusetts is a charming, quaint village that shines not only in autumn but in late November when the leaves are freshly fallen from the trees. Upon entering or even looking at pictures, the thing that stands out most is the uniqueness and intricateness of architecture. Stockbridge is well known for its museum of Norman Rockwell, a famous 20th century painter, which may appeal to and attract those interested in art and history. Among storefronts glittering with holiday fairy lights, historic and beautifully established Victorian-esque houses detail the streets sheltered with changing leaves.

Because fall is considered by many, including myself, to be one of the most beautiful times of the year, visiting small, local villages for short day trips is a great way to fully capture and appreciate the natural beauty of the season. Unique characteristics of each town listed above include charming small businesses, compelling historical elements, entertaining seasonal activities, convenient walkable navigation, and welcoming, involved communities that will overall make your visit not one to forget!
