The Glen Rock Board of Education recently granted the high school boy’s hockey team $25,000 to pay for reserved ice time.

The hockey team is the only school team that does not play on any facilities owned by the town.  The team still needs to raise $18,000 in order to cover the cost of the ice time.

The players and their parents rely heavily on fundraisers to help lower the cost for practices and games. The team’s most recent fundraiser is a gift card sale.

Angela Crawford, mother of senior player Andrew Crawford, organized this new fundraising idea. She hopes to raise money for the team while giving buyers a useful, convenient product.

“We are not asking anyone to buy something they might not need; we are asking them to purchase gift cards that they would purchase at stores through us.  We make it convenient by having one stop shopping at your desk or home,” Angela Crawford said.

The fundraiser is run through https://www.shopwithscrip.com and includes dozens of different stores. American Express gift cards are also being sold.  Normally, AmEx gift cards charge the buyer a service fee but if bought through the hockey team, the additional $5 will not be charged.

“I chose the gift card fundraiser because most of us will buy gift cards throughout the year and especially during the holiday season,” Crawford said.  “It is money that we are going to spend.”

They have been selling gift cards from various different retailers and restaurants. December 12th is the last day of the sale and cards will be delivered to buyers on December 18th.
