For the first time, the school will pay for half of the boys’ hockey team’s ice time.

The hockey players, along with their parents, and the Board of Education had an ongoing exchange discussing if the school would pay for ice time for awhile.

“Be it resolved that the board…authorizes the School of Business Administrator/Board Secretary to execute an agreement with the Ice House for the 2015-2016 School Year. The Glen Rock Hockey Association will reimburse the Board for ice time in excess of $25,000,“ said in the Board of Education minutes on Oct. 19.

When the hockey team started in 2000, the team was small and the parents paid for all costs including buses, ice time and referees.

As the team grew larger and more popular, the school started to sponsor them and pay for regulatory items like uniforms and buses.

The new track and field facilities added extra pressure on the school to pay for the hockey expenses because most sports are able to use the new facilites, but the hockey team does not receive the same benefits.

Although the school is not paying for the full expense of ice time, it saves the parents $25,000.

The money is not allowed to go to anything except the ice time.
