December is renowned for being the holiday season, with moods lifted and festivity levels off the charts. With this exciting time of year comes a variety of different opinions and hot takes surrounding the holiday season. So here are the Glen Rock students’ Holiday Hot Takes and my rating for each Hot Take.
Hot Take 1: Ethan Diamond – Elf is the most overrated movie.
This is truly one of the worst hot takes I have ever heard. Elf is not only the most overrated movie, it is the best holiday movie of all time. This movie perfectly encapsulates the festivity and child-like excitement of Christmas like no other. Will Ferrell put on a true acting masterclass and made an iconic movie that is a staple of Christmas. I’d have to rate this take a putrid 0/10.
Hot Take 2: Alex Kim – Home Alone is the best Christmas Movie.
Sticking on the theme of Christmas movies, this take is not bad at all. The concept of being all home alone with no parents was an idea we’ve all had that had finally been put into movie form with this Christmas classic. While personally, I’m more of an Elf guy myself, Home Alone is excellent in its own right and honestly might be my second favorite Christmas movie. I don’t agree but this is definitely not a bad take, giving it a solid 7.5/10.
Hot Take 3: Charlie Gifford – Real Trees> Fake Trees.
Many people prefer fake trees over real trees because they make almost no mess, their branches and leaves don’t die, and you don’t have to buy a new one each year. Despite all of these practical benefits, these people are wrong. Real trees have something that fake trees could never – Christmas spirit. For that reason, this take is a blistering 10/10.
The final two hot takes are both my own because we need some truly great hot takes for the holiday season from a seasoned expert like myself.
Hot Take 4: Andrew Vincenti – Christmas Eve is better than Christmas Day.
This take is incredibly controversial, but that doesn’t make it any less true. Although Christmas morning is filled with an unparalleled amount of excitement, the rest of the day is nowhere near as elite. Once you’re past the morning, the magical feeling of the holiday season starts to disappear as time passes, so the end of Christmas day is a sad occasion. Meanwhile, Christmas Eve has an unmatched level of anticipation and excitement, which is even better when paired with an elite family function.
Hot Take 5: Andrew Vincenti – “All I Want For Christmas Is You” is the best holiday song.
Everyone complains that this is the most overplayed song of the holiday season, but its radio domination is more than earned. It’s truly a sign that just fits the Christmas theme, as Mariah Carey’s phenomenal voice and fitting lyrics are enough to move anybody. No other song truly encapsulates the feeling of Christmas like All I Want For Christmas Is You. Mariah Carey cooked up a classic that truly defines December.
