Since first opening its Glen Rock location in 2012, the beloved Marc’s Cheesecake is scheduled to close in January of next year.
As a staple of Glen Rock, Marc’s Cheesecake touched the hearts of many sweet-toothed customers. According to senior Emily Chung, “I was stunned when I found out Marc’s Cheesecake is closing. I would always go there during the weekends with my friends, so it definitely saddens me to know that the best cheesecake cafe in town is closing.”
Despite the store’s closing, Silverberg’s recipes will continue to live on as he is selling Marc’s Cheesecake to the owners of Guerriero Gelato; together, they will be refining recipes and allow Marc’s Cheesecake to be more accessible than ever before. Additionally, the former Bischoff’s Ice Cream in Teaneck, New Jersey will be home to a new Marc’s Cheesecake location, so make sure to keep coming by to enjoy Silverberg’s recipes!
Following a failed attempt at making cheesecakes, owner Marc Silverberg was determined to perfect his cheesecake recipe. After successfully doing so, Silverberg opened up a cafe in Jerusalem, Israel in 1987- merely a year and a half after his initial attempt. Before eventually opening in Clifton, New Jersey in 1994, Silverberg traveled the world, visiting countries ranging from England to Taiwan.
As a small business owner for decades, Silverberg shared a few words of advice for the younger generations interested in opening up their businesses: “You have to have courage and tenacity.” Ultimately, Silverberg expressed that he feels happy that after years of being in business, he got to “make children smile,” and through this bittersweet ending to Marc’s Cheesecake in Glen Rock, he can continue to bring many more smiles. “Marc’s Cheesecake is truly one of a kind,” Chung says.
