Glen Rock High School’s Spanish club hosted their first Día de Acción de Gracias (Thanksgiving) in the Home Ec room on Nov. 22.
Members were encouraged to bring in snacks and food to the feast, while Señor Nunez and Ms. D’Alessio, the club advisors, provided chicken empanadas and authentic Spanish rice.
The Día de Acción de Gracias was the club’s kickoff event for the year, with hopefully many more to follow. All Spanish Club members were invited to fill up a plate and converse with others in the club.
“We decided to host a Thanksgiving event for our Spanish club because we were hoping to bring the club together and allow everyone to meet and socialize over a good meal,” club advisor Señor Nunez said.
The main meal included chicken empanadas, Spanish fried rice, tortilla chips and salsa, chocolate chip cookies, pumpkin and banana bread, brownies, apple strudel bites, and refreshments.
“The food was great and we really enjoyed talking to each other. I didn’t even know some of the other kids in the club so it was a great experience to meet everyone,” club member Isabella Santa Cruz said.
The entirety of the club hopes this event becomes an annual thing and is excited to participate in more activities like it throughout the year.
“Looking ahead, we hope to make this an annual event that will continue to grow and bring the current and future members of our club closer. Nada like an empanada to celebrate el Día de Acción de Gracias!” Señor Nunez and Ms. D’Alessio said. (Nothing like an empanada to celebrate Thanksgiving!)
