The Theatre Company is close to its first performance of the fall play.

On Nov. 2, 3, and 4, the Theatre Company will perform A Midsummer Night’s Dream. English and Theatre teacher Juliet Montalbano is the director and senior Madie Jones is the assistant director.

Montalbano said her goal is to have students control as much as possible. For example, students write music, choreograph, act, join crew, write press releases, design posters, and put costumes together. She said that there are a student set designer and scenic painters for this production.

One of the reasons Montalbano chose A Midsummer Night’s Dream was that students showed an interest in Shakespeare. While reading different Shakespearean plays, she kept coming back to A Midsummer Night’s Dream because of its magical theme, she explained.

Montalbano and Jones said that a highlight is getting to know new people who join the production and work with them.

She also said that many of the students will be physically active in this show, with dancing and gymnastic performances. There will also be elaborate set pieces and costumes.

Rehearsals began Sept. 13. The cast and crew number around 50 students.

Last year’s autumn performance was The Canterville Ghost.
