Glen Rock High School welcomed a new Media Center Specialist this September, filling the vacancy from last year.

Kim Hayes, the new Media Center Specialist, plans to do a lot of technology training and integration. She received her undergraduate degree from Fordham University in Comparative Literature. She pursued the path of literature because she has always had a passion for books and writing. For her, “reading is an escape.”

Hayes’ first job out of college was in textbook publishing for Wiley Publishing and Oxford University Press. This job allowed her to move around often, from California to back to New Jersey where she has stayed. After many years in publishing she went back to graduate school in 2002 at Columbia University. After completing her degree, she went on to become an English teacher at Northern Highlands.

Now she has landed her job here at Glen Rock High School.

“I know that the district is excellent, and I know that the district and Board of Ed is very supportive of the faculty and the library,” she said, “I wanted to have an opportunity to really help make some big changes here in the library.”

Hayes’ goal for the library is to move it away from its traditional, “stodgy” type of place; she wants to create a place for people to study and for people to be able to collaborate creatively.
