Rock Puck knocks off another team

The Glen Rock Panthers hockey team defeated the Point Pleasant Panthers by a score of 7-0 this past Sunday Dec. 13.

The starting goaltenders were John Cunningham (’16) from Glen Rock and Connor Bennett (’16) from Point Pleasant. Cunningham went on to record his first shutout and third win of his senior season.

Glen Rock’s star power showed up with Eddie Corvelli (’18) having five points (four goals and one assist) and Jake Kinney (’17) having three points (one goal and two assists). Kinney and Corvelli are tied for the team lead in points with 15.

Glen Rock dominated in every facet of the game and outshot Point Pleasant 56-7. Glen Rock won the opening faceoff and a  power play opportunity followed shortly after at the 13:30 mark. At nearly a minute into the power play Corvelli capitalized with assists from Justin Rosario (’16) and Kinney.

The game continued all night with Glen Rock dominating the offensive zone and puck possession. Just 27 seconds after the Corvelli goal Johnny LaMacchia (’17) fired a low and hard wrist shot. However, the kick save by Bennett prevented a goal. Glen Rock would keep on the offensive and only 44 seconds later Corvelli would net his 2nd goal in under a minute and a half. The Corvelli goal came with assists from Rosario and Leo Pawlika (’17).

The two goal lead was extended with 9:51 left in the 1st period after a massive scrum in front of the net, it resulted in a Tom LaMacchia (’16) goal. Matt Maselli (’18) and Colin Morrow (’17) both recorded assists on the goal.   This would be Glen Rocks third goal of the night and the third in under three minutes. They had a three goal lead so far however they would continue to tack on to it.

Just under a minute later a rebound would come right out to Morrow however he would miss the net going top right due to a tough angle. Roughly two minutes late Corvelli would shoot an outlet pass up to Rosario who would weave down the right side and get a pass off Kinney in the slot which he would put in the back of the net.

After a hot start their next goal came over six minutes later at  in which Corvelli would complete the hat trick. This goal came with assists from Tom LaMacchia and Dan McAuley (’16).

Glen Rock would enter the 2nd period with a five goal lead which they would not relinquish.

Point Pleasant came out slow once again and it showed when less than a minute into the period Peter Bolt (’16) was able to get a hard wrist shot off however it was a glove save that prevented the goal. After a flurry of shots from Glen Rock a quality opportunity came along about a minute later when Morrow would have a good look from the slot and would ricochet off a defender on net.

The game stalled for another three minutes with a lot of back and forth play in the neutral zone until a nice saucer pass was perfectly laid onto Matt Rella’s (’16) stick and left him with a shot right in front of the net. He attempted to shoot the puck in between Bennett’s legs however Bennett able to stop the puck.

The game remained pretty stagnant the rest of the way aside from a 4th Corvelli goal. He scored on a one timer on the power play from Jake Kinney and a second assist from Tom LaMacchia.

The final goal of the night came mid-way through the 3rd period where John LaMacchia scored a wrap around goal after not being able to convert any of his shot attempts all night.

On Wednesday, Glen Rock tied St. Joe’s (Metuchen) by a final score of 2-2.

Glen Rock’s next game will be Dec 18 against rival St. Joes Montvale at 7:30PM.
