Screen Actors Guild Awards red carpet

On Jan. 25 the red carpets were rolled out and the cars rolled up.

The annual Screen Actors Guild Awards took place Sunday night in Los Angeles, California. From television personalities to movie stars, everyone appeared their best.

The SAG Awards presents actors and actresses from both films and television with awards for their astounding work. Unlike other award ceremonies, these awards are given to actors by actors.

Although the awards ceremony focuses on the actors’ work, the red carpet is often seen as the best part.

“My favorite part about the awards is always the red carpet and seeing what type of dresses the stars choose,” said junior Julianna Roddy.

The star-studded carpet was swarming with designer gowns and tuxedos. Dolce & Gabbana, Vera Wang, and Dior are commonplace on this evening. While making their way towards the awards room, actors, actresses and their plus ones stop for photographs and questions.

E! News has broadcasters stationed along the carpet to document this event for their two-hour special coverage. Accompanying them were several other broadcasters, journalists, photographers, managers, and fans.

Golden Globe winner Maggie Gyllenhaal arrived in a Thakoon gown. The Honorable Woman lead actress’s paired her white gown with gold accessories and red lips, a unique take on this seemingly simple look.

Another stand- out star, Emma Stone, caught junior, Christina Howie’s eye. “It was bold and the black with the lipstick compliments each other very well,” Howie said.

Emma Stone, Birdman co-star, wowed in a Dior Couture tuxedo inspired dress. On top was what appeared to be a black suit-top, with a sheer black skirt attached to the bottom. “The menswear look is very flattering,” Howie said.

Her simple black gown juxtaposed to the edgy diamond earrings that lined her ears created a look that will be hard to forget. To top off the look, Emma Stone’s fiery red hair was straightened back into a sleek ponytail.

Modern Family star, Ty Burrell went for the full tuxedo. His Dolce & Gabbana black tux was paired with a velvet bowtie and black and white checkered pocket square.

Ty Burrell’s co-star Sarah Hyland was the best dressed according to Roddy. “I thought the neckline on the dress was perfect for her and I loved how the dress incorporated two different textures,” Roddy said.

Sarah Hyland’s Vera Wang gown incorporated an array of jewels on top with a simpler, black sheer bottom.

Lifetime Achievement award winner, Debbie Reynolds dazzled, head-to-toe, in a gold sequined dress paired with a matching jacket.

Following in Debbie Reynolds’s gold theme was nominee, Jennifer Aniston. Cake star attended the awards in a thin strapped, black and gold Galliano gown. To accompany the intricately designed gown, the Armani dress was accessorized with a simple necklace that looked like a single strand of jewels.

Reese Witherspoon, lead actress in newly released Wild, wore a white one shouldered Armani dress. The white gown was studded at the top with a ribbing of jewels. To match the side swept shoulder of the gown, Reese Witherspoon’s hair was parted swept to the side and pulled back into a sleek ponytail.

The red carpet built much anticipation to the awaited ceremony. “It’s all about who you’re wearing and I love seeing who wore what and they pulled it together,” Howie said. When the repeatedly asked question, “Who are you wearing?” grows monotonous, that means ceremony is around the corner.
