The term “semi-formal” (or half-dress) refers to the appealing level of clothing between formal and informal. This definition is the foundation for schools’ semi-formal dances, normally hosted for 10th-grade students. As a student who just attended semi, I heavily recommend that incoming sophomores do the same.
Semi-formals are hosted in the spring as a way to conclude the school year. It’s essentially a smaller-scale prom and a great reward for students at the end of the year. Although some people may deem attending semi as unnecessary, it truly is a fun way to remember 10th grade. It is also the perfect event for those who enjoy dressing up and spending time with their friends.
This year’s dance for the class of 2026 was themed “A Night Under the Stars”. It was hosted in the courtyard and had food catered by Francesca Pizza & Pasta. Beautiful decorations were placed around the space; gold, star-shaped balloons were hung from the hut in the middle of the yard and fairy lights were also strung about. At night, they really illuminated the space and made the theme come alive.
An array of “semi-formal” attire could be seen throughout the night. There were dresses in every color and ties to match. Sparkly shoes, cool nail designs, and beautiful jewelry and hair also filled the space. It was clear everyone who went heavily cared for the event and put their best effort forward.
As a sophomore who has attended every school dance since middle school, I have always found enjoyment in them. While some, specifically the high school events like homecoming, were better than others I’ve never regretted spending that time with friends and creating memories. Being at semi only added to this opinion. The fun I had with my friends and even the other members of my class is something I’ll remember for a while.
I give praise to the class officers and advisors for putting this event together and can’t wait to see what is done in the future.
