“Extraction” Film Review

by Jack Strawhorn, Staff Writer

Chris Hemsworth, who many know as Thor, recently starred in the movie Extraction as Tyler Rake which was released on Netflix on April 24, 2020. Viewers will find themselves locked into their screens as Hemsworth is seen taking down weapons dealers and drug traffickers one by one on a mission to rescue Ovi Mahajan jr. (Rudhraksh Jaiswal), the son of an imprisoned international crime lord, Ovi Mahajan sr. (Pankaj Tripathi). Ovi jr. is being held ransom by Amir Asif (Priyanshu Painyuli), Bangladesh’s biggest drug lord. Another man by the name of Saju Rav (Randeep Hooda), who works for Ovi Mahajan sr., is also on the hunt for Ovi jr.

Rake eventually gets ahold of Ovi jr. and the two of them go to Gasper’s house, former squadmate of Rake, in an attempt to lay low for a couple of days to get the police off their tails as the city is lockdown thanks to Amir Asif. With a ten million dollar reward for Ovi jr’s death Gasper tries to make a deal with Rake to split the profit. Rake ends up fighting Gasper about it as he has developed an emotional connection with Ovi jr. and takes him in as his own. The fight ends up with Gasper dying and Rake calling in Saju for help. Rake and Saju who once fought over Ovi jr. at the beginning of the movie must now work together to get Ovi jr. to the extraction point in order to save him.

The ending has viewers who have watched torn over what has really happened. This movie is filled with action and emotional scenes that touch the hearts of those watching it. I highly recommend this movie to anyone who needs a good film to watch over our break.
