Sink hole on stadium field to be filled
A sink hole was discovered on the high school’s stadium field last night.
The sizable sink in the turf was caused by a drainage collapse which occurred while installing the field lights. The hole is located just off of the corner of the football field, nearly on the track.
On most turf fields the drainage system rests 6-10 feet below the surface. The hole is filled with stones, heavy and large at the bottom and small and light at the top, to brace impact on the surface of the turf.
The construction crew will be finished with their project today at about 3:30 PM, according to an onsite worker. The work crew is from Land Tek from Amityville, NY.
The workers acted in a routine manner as they went about the reconstruction of the hole.
