Ella Henderson, a British singer/songwriter, is rising to fame.

She signed a record deal with Simon Cowell’s SYCO Music after coming in 6th place in the U.K. X Factor during 2012. Many were devastated to see Henderson leave the show, but this did not cease her career one bit.

Henderson’s new album, Chapter One, was recently released in the U.S. on Jan. 13, 2015, but was previously released in several other countries months earlier.

The album opens with her debut single, “Ghost.” This single was written by Henderson and co-written by Ryan Tedder, singer of One Republic. When released, “Ghost” reached number one on U.K. singles chart- maintaining its position in the Top Five for eight weeks in a row! This song was recently performed on Dick Clark’s Rockin’ Eve on December 31, 2014.

In this song, Henderson sings: “I keep going to the river to pray, ‘Cause I need something that can wash out the pain, And at most, I’m sleeping all these demons away, But your ghost, the ghost of you it keeps me awake.”

These strong lyrics, sung with incredible vocals, are only one of many portrayals of Ella Henderson’s compelling talent.

“Glow,” Henderson’s second single is the third track of her debut album. She co-wrote it with Steve Mac. This track acquires more of an electronic sound compared to her other songs. This song has an impressive stretch that allows her to really portray the range of her vocals.

The fourth track of Chapter One is another one of her most popular songs, called “Yours.” Her lyrics are very sensitive on this track, contributing to a very meaningful song. She sings: “And I would fight my strength to untape my mouth when I used to be afraid of the words, But with you I’ve learnt just to let it out, Now my heart is ready to burst.” This song is one of the slowest on the album, along with “Missed.”

“Missed,” track eleven, mainly focuses on Henderson’s voice, due to the use of only a few instruments accompanying her. These lyrics are also very sensitive: “You let me think you were so, so true, Looks like truth can lie, You want me to go from a straight high down to a low , With all the excuses here, the reasons there, they’re everywhere. . .”

Most of her other songs on the album have a sort of “up-lifting” rhythm with inspiring lyrics. Some of these songs include “Mirror Man,” “Hard Work,” and “Pieces.”

Some of the other tracks on her album include “Empire,” “All Again,” “Give Your Heart Away,” and “Rockets.”

Henderson works very hard on writing these songs for her album. She also works with a lot of different artists. She has worked with Babyface and Salaam Remi. The only song that she did not co-write is “Hard Work.”

Henderson is definitely impressing many people, first with her hit singles, and now with an astonishing debut album.
