December 18, 2014
The Glen Rock cheerleaders’ fall season came to an end with a first place divisional victory at the 13th Annual Cutter Classic Cheer Competition in Fair Lawn on Dec. 7.
“I’m really proud of my team. We came in first place last Sunday in our division,” Jessica Giardino, a junior, said.
Although Coach Alyssa Perry, who is also a math teacher, has almost finished plans for the upcoming winter season, she is still reflecting on the end of the fall season, which concluded at the end of their final competition.
“I was very proud of them and felt that they deserved it with all the hard work they put forth in this competition,” Perry said.
Overall, the team placed third in their first competition this year at Wanaque and finished off the season in first place at Fair Lawn; the girls’ focus is now on the winter season.
“I’m excited for this season, mostly so I can improve my skills for fall in 2015,” Giardino said. “And I can’t wait to cheer on our basketball players.”
Tryouts for winter cheerleading have concluded. The winter varsity cheer team roster for the 2014-15 season has been posted by the cafeteria.
Perry, although only in her second year with the Glen Rock team, has made outstanding achievements with her cheerleaders and hopes to continue it in the future.
“I am excited for the winter season,” said Coach Perry. “We have some new additions to our team and I am looking forward to working with them.”
Coach Perry has brought up girls from JV to the Varsity team.
“We will be attending one or two competitions in February, which is exciting for us,” she said.
The cheerleaders will be cheering on both the boys and girls basketball team this year.
“We will also be splitting our time between girls’ and boys’ basketball games and we are looking forward to cheering them on.”
The first Glen Rock Basketball game is on December 19th, 2014 which officially kicks off the start of the winter season here in Glen Rock.
