1989, Taylor’s recently released album, has already rose to the top of the charts seemingly in the moment it came out.

Her new album is really appealing to a different audience due to this new sound that she has created in her fifth studio-recorded album. Swift’s previous music is classified under a sort of country-pop genre, while her new music focuses on an “urban sophisticate” sound.

This album was the first album released in 2014 that has sold over one million copies within a week of its release date.

Although it is a change, people are still finding Taylor’s music inspiring and fun to listen to.

The first track on 1989 is called “Welcome to New York.” With a lively beat and interesting lyrics, this song is a great introduction to the album. It’s a fun song that describes New York City and the people living in it. A metaphor in this song is: “The lights are so bright but they never blind me. . .” The message in this song is that the pressure of becoming what you want to be can be very overpowering, but you have to stay strong and never allow those thoughts to discourage you. This message is portrayed through this fun piece of art.

Her second track is “Blank Space” — a song with an unforgettable beat and catchy lyrics that will be stuck in your head for a while. This song is Swift’s most recent popular song, topping the charts nonstop. “Blank Space” will be performed at the 2014 American Music Awards (Nov.23, 2014).

The most popular hit on 1989 is “Shake It Off.” This was the first biggest hit on Taylor’s new album. It is best described as a fun, very up-beat track that displays a very useful meaning behind that exciting sound. Within the lyrics of “the haters gonna hate. . . I’m just gonna shake it off,” it’s made pretty clear that the meaning behind the song is not to allow people to bring you down or discourage you.

The eleventh song, “This Love,” is one of the only slow tracks on the album, probably being the most unforgettable. Although it may acquire a more quiet tone, a very depressing, yet soothing (due to the sound), message is portrayed through it. It is about two people that are drifting apart from each other, but they still make impressions on each other’s lives- “This love is alive back from the dead. . . This love left a permanent mark.”

Taylor Swift’s music is transforming into something completely different than her works in the past. Most people aren’t interpreting this as a bad thing, such as The New York Times, LA Times, The Guardian, etc. They all are watching the singer and songwriter almost transpose her sound, helping her become a successful pop star.

Swift has also recently made headlines for removing her music from the service Spotify.
