The nearby town of Ridgewood recently opened a new cafe that is perfect for our small town vibe. If you’re looking for a lovely little restaurant to enjoy a meal, Tatte Bakery & Cafe is a perfect fit for you. They offer a wide variety of breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and all sorts of fun desserts, along with fresh squeezed juices and quality coffee. They not only offer delicious food but provide amazing customer service and workers as sweet as their pastries!
At first glance, I noticed the building’s charming exterior and I expected to walk into a tiny, quaint, cafe, but no. The entrance immediately opens into a spacious, cleanly and beautifully tiled floor with plenty of seating. From cozy booths to smaller tables perfect for a date or a girls’ trip, it’s both stylish and comfortable. If you’re after that aesthetic Instagram shot, this is the place. The scene is gorgeously designed with tall windows that flood the room with lots of natural lighting to set the tone. No filters needed.
The pastries are elegantly presented behind a glass display and baked fresh every day. You can immediately tell how much care is put into each one. They definitely focus on the quality of their food.
On my trip, I tried their strawberry, roasted peach, chicken salad for $16.25 and chicken pita for $14.25. After a short 10-minute wait, both dishes came out in small recyclable cardboard containers, since I took it for takeout. The strawberry, peach salad was refreshing and consisted of lettuce, red onion, roasted peaches, spinach, chicken, strawberries, cashews, goat cheese and drizzled in balsamic dressing. The combo of sweet fruit with acidic sauce and veggies was mouth watering. Many places like to drown their salads until they’re practically soggy but instead of feeling weighted down, each bite was well balanced and full of flavor.
Now, I thought the salad couldn’t be topped but I was certainly proved wrong after trying the chicken pita. This was fabulous. It paired fresh chicken salad with raisins, cucumber, lettuce, and a little heavier on the green herb dressing but wasn’t too overwhelming.
While everything about their presentation and quality was amazing, the only flaw I found was that their portions were quite small for their price. If I were to go on an empty stomach, I’m afraid my wallet would probably end up empty as well if I wanted to really fill my appetite. Still, for a light brunch or snack, Tatte is absolutely worth the visit.
