Finding a roommate can be very stressful, especially when you are in between schools. With May 1st quickly approaching, it’s time to find someone to live with who won’t steal your snacks or snore too loud. The first major thing to do is be honest about yourself; whether that’s admitting you’re an early riser, love the quiet, or a little on the messy side. Next, you can start to compare your profile to other people’s, making sure you share some common interests or activities. Now it’s time to reach out! Once you find someone that catches your eye don’t be afraid to message them and talk a little bit about your plans for next year. Something like this may work for you: [Hi! I saw that you’re going to _college name_ and I wanted to reach out because so am I. Congrats on your acceptance. What are you planning on majoring in?] This is a good segway into seeing what their freshman plan looks like, and if it is similar to yours. If you are both interested in continuing your conversation you can share what a day in your life looks like. In my experience, just comparing the things I need to do in my day to day with another person can help reveal if they are the right fit. Finally you can politely ask them if they have found a roommate yet, and if they haven’t, offer to room together. Finding a roommate may not be the easiest thing on your to-do list before college, but it doesn’t have to be the scariest either. Post yourself on your college’s 2029 page and start sending those DM’s. You got this!

Hi, I’m Ellie! I have been writing for the Glen Echo for four years. I am captain of the cheer team and play golf at Glen Rock High School. I love writing and reporting to keep the GRHS community in the loop of what is going on around town. Controversial: I prefer Francesca’s pizza over John’s Boy.
