On Sunday, December 9th a group of Glen Rock students along with Mrs.Walter, Mrs.Barbieri, and Ms. Vrablic went on a trip to the city to serve breakfast and bagged lunches along with winter and personal necessities to those in need outside of a homeless shelter on 28th street between 9th and 10th avenue.
The organization the club worked with is called, “December Run”. Every Sunday the homeless shelter tries to get a group to cover one of the Sundays to give donated supplies to the adults. The Students for Service Club supplies the most necessities out of all the other organizations.
“It was really nice to be able to help people out, especially considering it’s getting very cold outside.”
Said Maddie Hoefle who was a volunteer on the run.
Students donated toiletries along with clothing for the drive so they could be given out. Members of the Students for Service Club gave items like deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, etc, along with large jackets and hats meant for adults.
Mrs.Walter, one of the supervisors, shared some information about the run.
“Very few public facilities are available for the homeless. We don’t have enough facilities between bumps in doorways and blocked-off benches. To combat homelessness we do these types of work.”
These types of services are important especially to the rising homeless population issue in America today.
