In a single bite, “Old Fashion Cafe” magically transports you from New York City, to Italy. The atmosphere, courteous workers, and extraordinarily authentic cuisine are only half of what makes this cafe so special.
After trudging around the city streets, you will be swept right off your feet, landing in the Puglia region of Italy. Taking in the wonderful scent of local Italian homes and cafes, that are perfectly recreated in SoHo at Old Fashion Cafe.
As you walk in, you are struck by the beautifully unique features inside, from the fact that it is built underground, to the aesthetically pleasing utensils, plates and cups. The perfect blend of trendy and retro decor, will heighten your mood before you can even dive into the phenomenal Italian cuisine.
The scent of fresh Tagliatelle Alla Bolognese had me as excited as a kid finding out there will be a Snow Day. This is a pasta dish topped with ground beef and tomato sauce. With the pasta cooked to a dense perfection, and the amazingly flavorful and well seasoned meat, the taste certainly lived up to my excitement. The first bite already had me wondering if I could recreate this meal at home.
Raving about their pizza meals, it is safe to say my parents and best friend were also thoroughly satisfied. The thin, but doughy crusted pizza was crafted to a perfection, in a way I have never experienced before entering Old Fashion, making me all the more desperate to return.
The layout is true to its foreign inspiration, so tables tend to be quite close together, and the small space has the possibility to fill up quickly. The basement blueprint of this cafe isn’t the most handicap friendly, given the small flight of stairs before entry and the tight squeeze between tables.
Nonetheless, this cafe is perfect for almost anything else. A five person lunch date, or a quick solo breakfast stop, all of the above will leave your stomach satisfied. There is simply no doubt that this cozy and welcoming blanket of a cafe will transform your day.
Leaving Old Fashion Cafe made me desperate to learn Italian and ready to book my flight, wishing my stomach had a larger capacity for the outstanding food I was lucky enough to enjoy.
