The Billboard charts have been a wild ride since the pandemic. The trends that arose since were very unexpected, and, in my opinion, unenjoyable. Here are some predictions I have for this year.
- First and foremost, country music will continue to dominate the charts, and rap music will only fall further. The country music hits will all sound very similar to each other, and won’t deviate from the standard that country has had for the past 20 years.
- David Guetta will retool another 90s dance song into a new song. I predict that he’ll use either “Rhythm of the Night” by Corona or “Moskau” by Dschingis Khan. (The latter was mostly a joke, but I’d love to see Guetta actually do that.)
- In a similar vein, the trend of remixing, covering, and interpolating old songs (especially in a lazy way) for new singles will die down. Some songs will still be covers or interpolations of others, of course, but it will be more tasteful, like “Creepin’” by Metro Boomin, 21 Savage, and the Weeknd.
- Taylor Swift will get a #1 hit song.
- Morgan Wallen will get more hit songs, despite his controversy. They will all sound very similar, and public consciousness of his controversy will fall further.
- There will be some indie pop hits. Many of them will get popular from TikTok.
- Maroon 5 is coming back with a new single. With a new tour on its way this year, I’m sure they’ll put something out. I predict that it will be the same kind of songs they’ve been making since Red Pill Blues. I suspect they’ll use some interpolations of older songs or introduce country elements to fit in with the new charts.
- Coldplay will have a couple hits. As someone who has grown to enjoy Coldplay, I hope this is the case. With their new album “Moon Music” coming out in early 2024, I expect a few new singles. I think this one will be more toned down and mellow, compared to their last album.
- Lastly, Drake is going to make the same album all over again.
So, those are my predictions for 2024’s charts. Hopefully, at least two and three-quarters of them will come true. Be sure to follow what gets popular. It’s going to be an interesting year.
