Scary movies are all the rage during this time of year. Spooky season is the prime time to be scared. When I saw a new comedy thriller by the title Totally Killer with actors like Kiernan Shipka and Olivia Holt, I was intrigued. But the movie was a letdown.

Totally Killer can be described as Back to the Future with a side of murder. The movie opens with our main character, Jamie (Kiernan Shipka) with her mother Pam (Julie Bowen) not letting her have her freedom due to her three best friends being murdered 35 years ago. However after Jamie leaves the house, the killer returns and kills her mom. Jamie with the help of her best friend Amelia (Kelcey Mawema), travels back in time to 35 years ago to try and solve the murders. When she arrives in the past, she meets her mom (Olivia Holt) and dad (Charlie Gillespie) and together they work to stop the murders before they happen.

All that being said, it honestly wasn’t scary. I saw this movie all over TikTok, which was advertised as a thriller. I was expecting gore and thrill but I was not scared. The movie was extremely funny. All the characters had snippy comebacks and silly reactions to certain lines. That aspect made the movie.

The idea of a thriller is jumpscares and building suspense but this movie was all too predictable. I could tell who the killer was by an hour in. There was no tension, I felt very chill watching this movie. Even with the plot twist at the end, I felt unsatisfied. The movie felt incomplete by the end. The story was hard to follow. I spent half the movie confused and the other half wishing for more. So if you’re looking for a comedy this is your movie. But if you want scary, you need to move on.
