There’s an old french saying: “Il faut souffrir pour être belle” which roughly translates to beauty is pain. Does it really have to be that way? Sometimes, it feels like women’s clothing is either cute but impractical or comfortable and not the most stylish. There’s no in between. I’m not Vogue Editor Anna Wintour, but I do have 4 years of high school fall fashion experience under my belt.
My favorite outfits are the ones where I feel put-together and styled, yet still comfortable at the end of the day. When it’s February-cold in the mornings and August-hot in the afternoons, it seems like no outfit will fit the weather. Let’s be practical: there are some outfits that simply don’t work for a fall school day.
Bodysuits are cute, stylish, and ultimately the perfect complement to any pair of jeans. However, every girl knows that there is an almost immediate regret the second you slide into it. Forget about changing out of your clothes with ease. That feeling of imminent doom follows you the entire day. There’s a reason that onesies are made for babies. After a 7-hour school day, it’s the last thing that I want to be wearing. Let’s keep the bodysuits for half-days and weekends- it’s just not comfortable for all-day wear.
My hottest take yet is that I don’t like puffer vest coats. Honestly, they look do good on everyone, and they are an extremely versatile accessory when it comes to styling. However, they are so impractical. I don’t know about you, but my arms get so cold when I wear vest coats. There’s something so uncomfortable about being cold only in that one spot. I’m just not sold on vest coats this season- it’s too cold!
It’s basic for a reason. There’s nothing like an oversized zip-up jacket in this weather. I love the convenience of styling a zip-up jacket with anything: flared leggings, jeans, or even sweatpants. It’s perfect for a cooler day when it’s warm out, but not too warm. There’s something so comfortable about coming to school in a jacket that feels like a blanket. Especially on a never-ending rainy day, a zip-up jacket is the way to go! Fall is jacket season, hands down.
On a day that I can’t figure out what to wear, I reach for my cargo pants. They’re easy to throw on, and they go with almost everything. For me, it’s a good medium between sweatpants and jeans. It’s the perfect season to wear them: the pants are too warm for summer, and too thin for winter. Cargo pants paired with any solid color top just makes you look put-together, even on the days when you feel just the opposite.
Out with the flip-flops and swimsuits, in with cozy sweaters and jeans- it’s the best season of the year for fashion. Cherish the season, snow will be on the ground at the blink of an eye. While it lasts, let’s have the most stylish and most comfortable fall fashion season yet!
