On September 22nd, seniors banded together and wore yellow shirts in support of those going through childhood cancer to the football game. Under the slogan, #TengaStrong, the seniors showed support for their former teacher, Doug Tenga.
Senior Ally Zamparelli was the organizer of this fundraiser.
“It just started with Monday night I was like ‘what’s the football theme’ for the super fans and they were like gold out… because the foundation’s coming in because Tenga’s daughter had been struggling with this [childhood cancer] so I was like, oh, that would have been sick if we could get T-shirts made.”
Zamparelli originally thought of the idea through Coach Kurz. He is very close to a foundation for pediatric cancer called “The Jay Fund.” Kurz reached out to Zamparelli and the student section to see if there was a possibility to make the theme gold out in support. Immediately, Zamparelli improved this idea by ordering about 90 T-shirts for the senior class to wear to the game. Ultimately the fundraiser ended up raising over $400.
Support from the senior class was immediately given to this important cause. When asked why this cause is important, senior Emily McKeon stated: “I think it’s a really important cause to pay attention to because her mom was my reading teacher back in elementary school.”
