“What’s one word that sums up your high school journey?”
“My word is interesting. You know, a lot of stuff happens over four years. Obviously people change- like, you’re not always the same person you were from freshman year to senior year. Obviously, there’s typical high school drama over four years. You see a lot of like, I guess, interesting things happen over four years,” reflected Sports Editor James Stewart.
“…My word’s pretty similar to James’ because he stole mine. But mine is intriguing. Kind of like the same thing he said, a lot of things happen over high school. COVID, obviously, was very unusual…Like James said, a lot of changes, different people, different friends. It’s been pretty crazy but yeah, it’s intriguing,” stated Social Media Manager Cole Tennant.
“So, I chose overwhelming because, like we said, the COVID thing happened and that was personally hard for me to overcome. But once I did, it was a lot better. But, with the workload, testing, and needing to study it was definitely overwhelming at times,” noted Sports Editor Stella Traphagen.
“I would say informative. With all the people you meet over the years like, you learn so much and with the teachers too. And like other people you met over four years. You learn so much through just listening,” affirmed Social Media Manager Kieran Kennedy
“Tell me about One special high school memory.”
“Sometime this week at like 7:40 out in the courtyard. Nobody around. And it reminded me of like, a memory of like, 11th grade of the first time I like, stepped foot in the school because I was virtual,” said Editor-in-Chief Yethmie Goonatilleke.
“I would probably also say earlier this week, because I don’t really think about it like I’m graduating. I kind of think about it like I’m still a student here, and I’ve been a student here, and that’s kind of like all I’ve known. So, when we had our book signing it was kind of weird writing like, to people and thinking, like, you might never see them again. Which is so weird because like, we all grew up together. There’s been a lot of that going on,” stated Profile Editor Cadia Warner.
“What are your final feelings about graduating?”
So for me, I can’t really describe it but it’s like- these four years have been fun but some of it was just, like, tiring. Honestly, all of the stuff we had to go through and like how much people change- things just go upside down. So, I just feel relieved I’m graduating,” said Traphagen.
“Yeah. For me, I guess it was just like a ton of memories just started racing through my head. I feel like, especially reflecting on stuff that happened. Like, I had one of my middle school teachers sign my yearbook on Wednesday. It’s like being back in that room for the first time in like, 3 years. It just felt really weird. It’s like, there’s still eighth graders in there and it makes you remember when you were in that classroom. It feels like it was like, a few months ago. But it was five years ago,” noted Stewart.
“Yeah, I’d say the same thing as James. I mean, when I started senior year, I wasn’t really thinking about graduating that much. But it kind of hit me, started hitting me at least, when we went to take our elementary school pictures and we went back to our elementary schools and got to meet our teachers again. But I mean, then it faded away and you have senior activities and stuff that kind of bring it back every once in a while. But since the yearbook signing, I would say it’s really been hitting me that it’s actually over,” stated Tennant.
