Remembering Barbara Walters

by Olivia Berard, Copy Editor

Barbara Walters’ death has struck the journalism industry hard. Her career began in 1961 as a broadcasting reporter, writer and panel member of NBC’s “Today” show. In 1974, she was promoted to co-host. A two short years later, she joined the ABC News team as the first female anchor on an evening news program. “The Barbara Walters Specials” and “10 Most Fascinating People” were her prized possession while working at ABC. She became a co-host for the company’s “20/20”. Walters interviewed every US president since Richard Nixon along with every first lady. She captured the hearts of many and took on the fiercest of people. In 1997, “The View” debuted and led to mass numbers of imitators attempting to copy her style of journalism. In 2014, she decided to retire in hopes of leaving people with her creativity. She passed away peacefully in her home with family and friends by her side. She will always be known to many as a pioneer in the broadcasting industry. The Glen Echo
