Following the season opening win against Waldwick Midland Park, Glen Rock was anxious for their first home game against Garfield– an undefeated team who let up only three points to Lodi the previous weekend.

Students packed a section of the bleachers wearing all white. Their cheers were loud and energetic and an optimistic air circled the field.

Glen Rock came out strong in the first quarter with a seven yard pass from Junior Quarterback Greg Schlett to Senior Receiver Ashton Dalessio to put the Panthers up a touchdown.

“Scoring first is huge it gives us confidence as a team and better chance to win,” Captain Seve Bilbao said.

However, Garfield responded with 76 yarder and Glen Rock’s lead was gone almost immediately.

Both teams were quiet after their first touchdowns, until Glen Rock Lineman Pierce Tuttle picked up a fumble and ran it to the endzone for a 14-7 lead.

Glen Rock’s success is due to strong defensive efforts from players like Tuttle and like Bilbao.

Bilbao collected more than ten tackles for the second straight game.

“The team around me on defense is doing its job, which is allowing me to make so many tackles for my team,” Bilbao said.

Minutes into the final quarter, a Garfield drive tied up the score at 14-14.

Much like Glen Rock’s first touchdown, Dalessio ran to make a 70 yard touchdown. As the clock ran out, Delessio came out again with a Pick 6 that set in the second win of the season for Glen Rock.

Next week, Glen Rock will play Palisades Park. Palisades Park looks to capture their first win after a devastating 47-0  loss to former state champions, the Rutherford Bulldogs. This will be Glen Rock last home game before homecoming which will be against Lodi on Saturday September 29th.
