Valedictorian receives honors at congratulatory breakfast
June 13, 2016
Glen Rock High School’s 2016 valedictorian attended an honorary breakfast alongside 76 other Bergen County Valedictorians on Tuesday, June 1.
The breakfast took place at the Fiesta Banquet Hall in Wood-Ridge, a venue large enough to fit the approximately 300 guests.
Jennifer Miller, the valedictorian, was accompanied by her parents, brother, Principal John Arlotta, and Superintendent Dr. Paula Valenti.
Upon arriving to the dining hall, Miller was congratulated by several people, including the Bergen County Coalition of School Administrators, who hosted the event.
The breakfast included several speeches from county superintendents and board leaders. The valedictorians were presented awards from the speakers. In addition to plaudits and speeches, there was a raffle of prizes during the meal.
At the end of the morning, the students were given plaques of recognition for their hard work and determination.
Miller is known as a strong, determined student to her teachers and peers. Her love of mathematics and science courses have helped her succeed in the most challenging classes offered in the high school.
“Jen’s a quiet girl but certainly very hard on the books. She works very very hard. She takes a lot of difficult classes and does well with that,” Arlotta said.
Not only is Miller academically gifted, but she is also an athlete. She was the captain of the girl’s tennis team this year.
“This a very good school, and also a very good graduating class, so to be number one on top of, that says a lot,” Arlotta said.
Miller will be attending Georgetown University.
