School approves additional days off in March
March 15, 2016
Glen Rock Public Schools will be closed on March 24 and 28, as well as May 27 and May 31. The alterations to the school calendar were approved last night at the Board of Education meeting.
These extra four days were originally built into the school calendar as emergency days, but the district did not have any snow days or other closings.
Superintendent Paula Valenti wrote to staff members that, “barring any unforeseen emergencies that may arise that would require the use of any emergency day,” the days would be allotted to the two weekends, rather than solely to Memorial Day break, as stipulated in the original district calendar.
The announcement has parents at the elementary schools scrambling to find childcare for the additional days.
High school students, however, have met the news of the additional days off positively.
“It’s really nice to have the days around Easter off because it gives us more time to spend time with our families,” junior Julia Rooney said.
