Colleges attend Glen Rock for evening

More than 100 colleges from the Eastern United States attended Glen Rock High School on Wednesday, Oct. 28 for the annual college fair. Students walked around, asked questions, and found out what each college has to offer, as they searched for their ideal colleges.
Tables were set up in both the cafeteria and the middle school gymnasium, giving each college its own space to attract students. Throughout the two hours, both locations were nearly filled with students and parents asking questions and listening to the answers of the college representatives. Many students who attended the fair for the first time found it to be a great first step in their college hunt.
“I thought it was a great way to start preparing students for college and the application process,” said junior Jamie Russo. “I learned a lot about all the schools and which ones interested me.”
One of the most popular qualities of the fair was the range of students that it appealed to. Some students have already decided what they want to do, they were only trying to figure out where to go. Others, however, had neither visited any colleges nor knew what they wanted to study.
According to junior Lee Hasselman, his trip around the tables became a lot easier once he figured out what he wanted to do.
“I went last year. This year was definitely more useful because now I know what to look for in a college, whereas last year I wasn’t as sure.”
The college fair is just one of many higher education networking opportunities that Glen Rock provides its students with. For several weeks, other schools have visited the high school during the day. Students are able to sit down in a small group and ask whatever questions they may have about the college.
Although many students are still trying to figure out what they want to do, some are looking further ahead. Russo, who is interested in fashion, says she is interested in which colleges can get her an employment after she graduates their school.
“The main things I was interested in were internships during college and job opportunities after college,” she said.
