First debut of dance team at pep rally

The homecoming pep rally is already filled with many traditions, but this year, Jordan McMahon (’16) started a new one.

McMahon founded Glen Rock’s first high school dance team and their debut was at the pep rally on Friday, Oct. 16.

In the past, the annual pep rally recognizes the fall sports team and there are performances by the band, color guard and cheerleaders. This year, the dance team was added to the agenda.

McMahon choreographed the routine that was performed. He is really proud of the performance, as well as the positive feedback.

“Jordan McMahon and Sarah Crawford I believe have done most of the choreography, but Jordan McMahon is an incredible leader,” Ms. Sita Patel, dance club adviser and Spanish teacher, said. “He knows what he’s doing, obviously as dancer, but also the way he talks to the other members of the team. He knows how to approach them about improving and to get them excited for what they are doing.”

“The main goal I think is to have fun and I think we do that. I think all of us became good friends from it. I really want to start having people collaboratively choreograph to make it an even better experience for everyone,” McMahon said.

Members of the dance team are McMahon, Michela Mountain (’16), Sarah Crawford (’17), Grace Cunningham (’17), Sydney Hornack (’17), Jessie Stern (’18), and Juliette Demaria (’19).

“Now that we’ve done our first performance, we really feel like a team, which is awesome. We felt so proud when we were done and the crowd seemed to really like it so were all really excited about that,” said Crawford.

Currently, the dance team is scheduling upcoming events including a possible school flash mob and performing at basketball games.
