The Glen Rock High School girls’ varsity tennis team won the state sectionals, proving that practice makes perfect.

The team had been preparing for states, since day one. They challenged themselves every day and continued to do the same drills until they had it down pat.

“Everyone on the team came to practice prepared and ready to work their hardest,” said Karolina Callahan, senior. “It feels absolutely unbelievable [to be champions].” she added.

Earlier this season, Glen Rock suffered a tough loss against Leonia, but then battled their way back in the state tournament. Before the match, they spent time preparing and strategizing on how to win.

Varsity tennis player and Glen Rock High School junior, Kaitlin Stansel said, “The majority of our preparation for big matches, like states, is all mental.”

The title of State Sectional Champions is well-deserved for this team of hard-working, motivated and talented girls.

“It feels pretty awesome to be part of a team that put in so much effort to be where we are,” said Meghan O’Neill, junior.

The practices were intense and challenging at times but it is clear that they were worthwhile. The team put in a lot of time working on their technique and remembering to ‘control the ball.’

“We’ve worked really hard to get to where we are now,” Stansel said. “Words can’t describe how amazing it feels to be champions.”

Stansel concluded, “It’s an incredible feeling seeing our hard work pay off. I couldn’t be happier to be part of this team and I’m so proud of all that we’ve done this season”
