2023 New Laws

by Devyn Xu, Staff Writer

Every new year brings changes, and New Jersey is no exception. For the year of 2023, New Jersey’s laws and regulations are being revised and passed. Among those changes include many increased and improved employee benefits, as well as more gun restrictions, a minimum wage increase, and longer work hours for teens. These are just a few of the many new developments that the government has decided on this year.

Changed employee benefits this year include faster working unemployment benefits, improved healthcare services, and better auto insurance.

The minimum wage has been increased to $14.13 due to the New Jersey government’s goal of $15 per hour by 2024.

Happiness has stemmed from the new law dictating longer work hours for teens; 16-17 year olds can now work a 50 hour work week, while teens aged 14-15 will now be able to work 40 hours a work week.

Guns are now illegal to carry around in sensitive areas such as courthouses and schools.
