Running through the competition

The Glen Rock track team competed in the annual Bergen County Relay meet at River Dell High School on April 15th and 16th. Since every team in Bergen County competes and there were 46 different teams, the meet lasts two days.

On the first day, the Glen Rock boys’ team did not compete because the majority of the boys runners were not in shape to run the day after senior prom.

Although the girls’ team did not have all of their runners, they still competed.

“It was good for what we had there,” Mr. McCarten, coach of the track team said. “Because of prom, we didn’t have a lot of our runners on the first day.”

On the second day, the boys’ team found success, winning many awards including 2nd 4x400m Relay, 1st Distance Medley Relay, 2nd Sprint Medley Relay, 1st 4x100m Relay, 5th Discusses Relay and 5th Overall Boys’ team.

The girls had most of their team at the meet, but they still did not compete in any relays on the first day. Their races took place on the second day of the meet.

The girls’ team also had a successful finish including 4th Overall, 4th 4x100m Relay, 3rd 400m Hurdle Relay, 5th Distance Medley Relay, 5th Sprint Medley Relay, 5th 4x400m Relay 4th Pole Vault Relay and 6th Javelin.

They competed in the League Championship two weeks later on April 28th.

“It was the first time for the majority of the season that we were able to have everyone there, except one who was out with a knee injury. It was a true team effort we set a lot of personal records which helped us to win it, and you could even say that it was a personal goal for the team since the beginning of the season. The boys team had not won it in nine years and the girls had not won it in ten years,” said Coach McCarten. So with the track teams two recent impressive performances, hopefully they can continue their streak.
