Figuring It Out

College visits are in full swing for junior girl Michela Mountain. Mountain is in full search mode for the perfect school.

It seems that the place that has that perfect school is New York City. The fashion, diversity and the schools in the city all appeal to her and the fashion schools especially have a hold on Mountain’s heart.

“I have visited The Fashion Institute of Technology, Parsons, and Pratt,” says Mountain.

She made the choice to visit these particular schools with plain and simple reasoning – their location and the type of schools that they are, which are all focused on fashion, played a huge role in Mountain’s college visits. These schools also have the major that Mountain is very interested in – Fashion Design.

“I have always been interested in fashion design. I just feel like it fits me very well and I can do very well in that field of work,” Mountain explained.

One school, Parsons The New School Of Design, really stood out compared to the rest. Parsons is a private art and design school located in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Lower Manhattan. Parsons is the former college of Top Designers such as Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang, Tom Ford, and Zac Posen.

“I really liked Parsons, it just seemed like a better fit and had a better atmosphere,” Mountain said.

Her college search is not limited to only fashions schools. She is also looking in to some Liberal Art schools in the future. Mountain ideal school would be a Fashion and art based college but she is keeping her options open.

“I plan on visiting some more Liberal Art schools, I’m not sure which ones but just as a fallback in case I decide that I don’t want to be in the city anymore.”

Going on these college visits definitely made the idea of college surreal.

“This experience made me realize how close college really is which is really scary. I swear I was just in the second grade and now I’m supposed to be going to college and it is really scary,” Mountain laughed.
