Glen Rock High School’s volleyball team won both sets against Lodi, making their record, 7-2.

Lodi didn’t stand a chance against this squad, led by eight seniors: Alexa Garrido, Kristen Goodyear, June Son, Rebecca Nathanson, Jacqueline Maselli, Arissa Gazda, Lee Maitner, and Meghan Donohue.

The first game was a blowout, Glen Rock wining 25 to 7. Arissa Gazda, senior libero (a defensive specialist), gained the lead with some great serves. “It went well,” she said. “We did a lot of great serving and hit very well today.”

The girls went into the second set with their heads held high, closing with another win, 25-10.

Captain Lee Maitner was ecstatic about the win, especially after a tough loss to Northern Highlands. “I definitely think it went better than I expected,” she said. “Coming back and crushing them was a huge confidence builder after yesterday’s loss.”

Maitner continued, “If we’re all on our game, we can beat anyone.”

Glen Rock’s only losses this season were to Northern Highlands and Bogota.

The girls have been practicing together since the summer and have been prepared by their coach, Matthew Kingsley. He strongly believes in his team and expects great things from them.

“We expect to win every game, that’s our expectation,” Kinglsey said.

Glen Rock will be playing next week against Elmwood Park on Monday September 29. Maitner said, “We’re in it to win it.”
